1. Tank Setup

• Tank size: A minimum of 5 gallons is recommended, but larger is always better. Bettas are territorial and need space to explore and swim.
• Water temperature: Black Samurai Bettas are tropical fish, so maintain the water temperature between 76°F - 80°F (24°C - 27°C). A submersible heater will help keep the temperature stable.
• Water conditions:
  • pH: Keep the pH between 6.5 and 7.5 (slightly acidic to neutral).
  • Ammonia and Nitrite: Always aim for 0 ppm for both. Nitrate levels should be kept below 20 ppm.
  • Water changes: Perform a 25-30% water change weekly. If the tank is smaller, consider doing more frequent changes.

2. Filtration

• Bettas don’t like strong currents, so use a gentle filter with adjustable flow. A sponge filter or a low-flow filter works well.
• Filtration will help keep the water clean and oxygenated, which is important for your Betta’s health.

3. Tank Decor and Environment

• Hiding spots: Provide plants (live or silk) and decorations that offer hiding spots. Bettas appreciate a little privacy to rest and feel secure.
  • Live plants like Java Fern, Anubias, and Marimo Moss Balls are great options. They also help maintain water quality.
• Avoid sharp decorations: Bettas have delicate fins that can tear easily, so avoid decorations with sharp edges. Opt for smooth, rounded edges or silk plants.
• Open swimming space: Bettas enjoy swimming, so leave plenty of open space for them to explore.
