Bloody Mary Neocaridina shrimp are a striking variety of Neocaridina shrimp, recognized for their vivid red coloration. They are relatively easy to care for and can add a vibrant splash of color to your aquarium. Here’s a comprehensive guide to their care:
Tank Setup
-
Tank Size: A minimum of 10 gallons is recommended, although larger tanks are preferable for stability and space.
-
Substrate: Use a fine substrate like sand or small gravel. Neocaridina shrimp are quite adaptable, but a soft substrate is gentler on their delicate antennae and legs.
-
Water Parameters:
- Temperature: 22-26°C (72-78°F). Keep the temperature stable and avoid fluctuations.
- pH: 6.5-7.5. Bloody Mary Neocaridina shrimp are adaptable but prefer slightly acidic to neutral water.
- Hardness: They thrive in moderately hard water, typically 6-12 dGH.
- TDS (Total Dissolved Solids): Maintain TDS between 150-250 ppm. Neocaridina shrimp are more tolerant of variations in TDS compared to some other shrimp species.
-
Filtration: A gentle filter is ideal, such as a sponge filter or a hang-on-back filter with a low flow rate. Strong currents can stress the shrimp.
-
Lighting: Moderate lighting works well. While Bloody Mary Neocaridina shrimp do not require special lighting, it helps in showcasing their color and observing their activities.
Diet
- Food: Provide a varied diet consisting of high-quality shrimp pellets, algae wafers, or sinking granules. Supplement with occasional blanched vegetables like zucchini, spinach, or carrots. Be careful not to overfeed, as excess food can deteriorate water quality.
