Caring for a Galaxy Copper Betta is very similar to caring for other Betta fish, with some additional attention to their stunning coloration. These Bettas have a striking iridescent body with shades of copper, gold, and other vibrant colors, and they need the right environment to thrive and maintain their beauty. Here's how to care for your Galaxy Copper Betta:
1. Tank Setup
- Tank Size: A minimum of 5 gallons is recommended, although a larger tank is always better. A bigger tank gives your Betta more space to swim and explore.
- Water Temperature: Bettas are tropical fish, so they require a stable water temperature between 76°F - 80°F (24°C - 27°C). A submersible heater is essential to maintain a consistent temperature.
-
Water Parameters:
- pH: Keep the pH level between 6.5 and 7.5, which is slightly acidic to neutral.
- Ammonia and Nitrite: Should be at 0 ppm. Always make sure there are no harmful spikes in the water.
- Nitrate: Keep nitrate levels under 20 ppm.
- Water changes: Perform a 25-30% water change weekly. In smaller tanks, you may need to change the water more often.
2. Filtration
- Gentle filtration is key for Betta fish. They don’t like strong currents, so use a gentle sponge filter or a filter with an adjustable flow rate.
- A filter will help maintain water cleanliness and oxygenate the tank, which is vital for the health of your Betta.
3. Tank Decor and Environment
- Plants and hiding spots: Bettas appreciate having live plants, such as Java Fern, Anubias, or Moss Balls. Plants provide hiding spots and surfaces where your Betta can rest.
- Smooth decorations: Avoid decorations with sharp edges, as these can tear a Betta's delicate fins. Opt for smooth, rounded decorations or silk plants.
- Open swimming space: Bettas enjoy swimming freely, so ensure the tank has enough open space for your Betta to explore.
- Cover for the tank: Bettas are known to jump, so using a tank lid or a mesh cover is important to prevent your Betta from escaping.
