Gold Laser Corydoras (Corydoras sp. "Gold Laser") is a striking and relatively rare species of Corydoras catfish, known for its unique golden coloration and pattern. Like other Corydoras species, they are peaceful and make excellent additions to community tanks. Here’s a comprehensive care guide for Gold Laser Corydoras:
Tank Size and Setup
- Tank Size: A minimum of 20 gallons is recommended. Larger tanks are preferable to provide more space and stability.
- Aquascape: Provide a well-planted tank with a soft substrate, such as sand or fine gravel. Corydoras love to dig and forage, so a soft substrate will prevent injury to their delicate barbels.
- Substrate: A soft substrate is essential. Sand is ideal, but fine gravel can also work if it is smooth and rounded.
- Lighting: Moderate lighting is sufficient. Bright lighting is not necessary, as Corydoras are more interested in the substrate and hiding spots.
Water Parameters
- Temperature: Gold Laser Corydoras prefer water temperatures between 72-78°F (22-26°C). Use a reliable heater to maintain a stable temperature.
- pH: They thrive in slightly acidic to neutral water, with a pH range of 6.0 to 7.5.
- Hardness: They can adapt to various water hardness levels but prefer soft to moderately hard water, with a general hardness (GH) of 4-8 dGH.
- Water Quality: Maintain excellent water quality with regular water changes (20-30% weekly). Ensure ammonia and nitrite levels are at 0 ppm and keep nitrates below 20 ppm. Use a high-quality water conditioner to treat tap water before adding it to the tank.
Filtration and Water Flow
- Filtration: Use a filtration system that provides both mechanical and biological filtration. Sponge filters or gentle canister filters are suitable for Corydoras tanks.
- Water Flow: Low to moderate water flow is ideal. Corydoras prefer gentle currents, so ensure the filter output is adjusted to avoid strong currents.
Feeding
- Diet: Gold Laser Corydoras are omnivorous and will accept a variety of foods. Offer high-quality sinking pellets or wafers as their staple diet. Supplement with live or frozen foods such as bloodworms, brine shrimp, and daphnia.
- Variety: Providing a varied diet ensures they receive all necessary nutrients and helps maintain their health and coloration.
- Feeding Frequency: Feed them once or twice a day. Offer only as much food as they can consume within a few minutes to avoid overfeeding and maintain water quality.
